Basics
The project includes reevaluation and redesign of the existing Spooner Lake front country facilities. Activities will include conceptual planning and design for the entire Spooner project area , and Phase 1 construction. Phase 1 will include a Visitor Center and Amphitheater, interpretive elements, entrance road improvements, pathways, and way-finding signage.

01/08/2024 4:40 PM Kevin Fromherz Project is complete as of this year, some warranty work and punch list items were covered this year but had been paid out of prior years. This years accomplishments included the installation of the interpretive panels at the visitor center.
03/28/2023 3:21 PM Beth Vollmer Improvements in 2022 include a new visitor center and amphitheater. The Spooner Lake Visitor Center and Amphitheater is a hub of information for the Spooner Lake and Backcountry State Park. The project includes: new restroom facilities, convenience room with planned vending machines, a warming hut, audio/video and Wi-Fi/device charging, interpretive pavilion with map and way finding features, gift shop and information counter, amphitheater, and park office.
The site has also been improved with new landscaping, irrigation, and trail side amenities, and a pathway system that links into existing trails.

12/17/2021 2:06 PM Jay Howard Expenditure update for 2021 is based on invoices through November 2021 (construction and consultant assistance).
09/03/2021 2:34 PM Jay Howard Current expenditures are up to 09/03/2021. It is estimated that up to 1/2 million of project budget for phase 1 will be left over. All excess Phase 1 project monies will roll over into Phase 2 of this project. The estimated project shortfall for Phase 2 is 3 million.
01/12/2021 5:23 PM Jay Howard Current expenditures are up to the end of 2020, and include further design costs for the overall Spooner Frontcountry Improvements design, and early construction costs (permitting and bidding). 1st bid did not result in the selection of a contractor. 2nd bid will occur in Jan/Feb 2021.
01/23/2020 9:24 AM Jay Howard Current expenditures are reported up to the end of 2019. Construction will begin in spring of 2020, and last for two construction seasons (Oct 2021). Additional planned funding: Tahoe Fund - $300,000; RTP - $90,000; LWCF - $500,000. Leftover project funding will go toward phase 2 design and construction.
