Status

Number of active osprey nests recorded in the Tahoe Basin from 1997 through 2023. Threshold standard is four population sites. The trendline shown was estimated using a linear regression model.

Approach

A shoreline survey is conducted by boat monthly during spring and summer months following standard protocols. Additional surveys are conducted at historic and likely nest sites at other lakes and upland areas. All suitable nesting habitat is surveyed for nest activity and nest success.
