Overview

Basics

Basics
Improvements to public lakefront properties at El Dorado and Conolley Beaches in South Lake Tahoe, focused on public lake access, open space, view corridors, shoreline stability, and water quality. In 2014 and 2015, the Conservancy acquired additional land, removed development and stabilized impacted areas, and developed initial conceptual plans for public amenities. In 2019, the Conservancy repaired severe shoreline, drainage infrastructure, and public access failures. In 2020, the Conservancy initiated comprehensive planning, including environmental review for Alta Mira and engineering for Conolley Beach.

Notes

Notes
01/20/2023 9:32 AM Stuart Roll The next portion of this project is on hold due to the ownership change from the Conservancy to the City of South Lake Tahoe
11/04/2022 9:48 AM Scott Cecchi On September 15, 2022, the Conservancy Board authorized Conservancy staff to transfer ownership of these properties to the City of South Lake Tahoe. This ownership change is scheduled for 2023.
01/06/2021 3:15 PM Stuart Roll The Conservancy has completed two initial phases of this project, and is currently planning a third phase of recreation improvements.
12/30/2020 8:27 AM Scott Cecchi In 2020, the Conservancy completed the Alta Mira Shoreline Stabilization Project and established a Technical Advisory Committee to advance planning efforts for future improvements.
12/30/2020 8:26 AM Scott Cecchi In 2019 the Conservancy made significant progress constructing the Alta Mira Shoreline Stabilization Project. This is an interim stabilization project. Planning for long-term improvements commenced in 2020.
01/04/2019 11:36 AM Scott Cecchi Scott Cecchi - In 2018 slope failures dramatically accelerated due to high lake levels and extreme wind events. 2018 planning expenditures to mitigate these issues included contracts with NHC (engineering), Ascent (cultural), Design Workshop (conceptual planning), and Bushwackers (tree removal). Additional 2018 expenditures include Tahoe RCD crew work, permit fees (Lahontan), and DGS staff time. Obligated retention was included in the 2018 expenditures. Construction of a slope stabilization project is planned for 2019.
01/18/2018 3:10 PM Matt Driscoll The Conservancy completed initial public access improvements in 2014 and 2015 (mentioned below as the facelift), which included site stabilization and protection. Performance measures for this initial work were reported on for 2014 and 2015, but the Conservancy is currently planning a more extensive public access improvement project which will further enhance the site and provide lake access. This timeline and phasing explains why the project has reported some accomplishments and expenditures for 2014 and 2015, with the next phase slated for implementation in 2020.
01/12/2018 2:21 PM Scott Cecchi 2014-2015 expenditures reported included land coverage removal that was not reported as an EIP accomplishment because this coverage is reserved in the Conservancy land bank for future reuse on this site as part of the future recreation improvements. Also includes $68,860 for conceptual planning. All 2014-2015 expenditures reported under the year 2015 ($107,547).
01/22/2017 8:48 PM Penny Stewart The Conservancy is currently seeking funding to continue moving this project forward.
