Overview

Basics

Basics
Restoration and hazardous fuels reduction in the wildland urban interface (WUI) within the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. Phase I included archaeological surveys and other inventory. Project areas included Van Sickle, Tunnel Creek, North Canyon, Slaughterhouse Canyon, the Highway 28 corridor, and the portion of the Gondola fire within LTNSP. Restoration accomplished using a combination of hand and mechanical thinning, prescribed fire and biomass removal. Gondola fire rehabilitation included installing straw wattles, contour felling, seeding and planting. The 35 acre Upland Wildlife Habitat Improvement project utilized mechanical thinning.
