Overview

Basics

Basics
This project implements fuels reduction treatments on National Forest urban parcels analyzed in the Urban Lot EA and South Shore Fuels Reduction project. Many of the acres to be treated are within or directly adjacent to riparian conservation areas and are designed to remove encroaching conifers from aspen forests and riparian plant communities. These treatments have multiple resource objectives including retreating older fuels treatments to bring them up to current standards and to complement defensible space treatments occurring on adjoining private lands, invasive species control; soil stabilization and erosion control; hazard tree removal and treatment of insect and disease outbreaks.

Notes
01/11/2024 11:00 AM Brian Garrett 7 acres of hazard tree and fuels treatments were completed in 2023. The LTBMU thru an agreement with the CTC anticipated additional acres to be treated in 2023, however, that work is delayed and will be completed in 2024. Once the CTC agreement work is completed, this project will be finalized and closed.
01/13/2023 11:23 AM Brian Garrett Forest Service crews conducted hazard tree and fuels reduction treatments on 40 acres of urban lots. FY23 will be the last year that accomplishments will be shown under this project for remaining SNPLMA funded work associated with Round 12 funding.
01/17/2022 6:03 PM Brian Garrett Forest Service crews conducted fuels reduction and hazard tree removal on 20 acres of urban lots. The Forest Service is working with partners in California and Nevada to support resource management on NFS urban lots. Additionally, the Forest Service will be completing a new NEPA decision for management of NFS urban lots in Spring 2022. All future projects will be implemented under this new project, this is the final report for this Urban Forest Restoration and Fuels Reduction project.
12/30/2020 10:54 AM Brian Garrett Additional treatments completed in FY20, CTC under good neighbor agreement will be implementing additional treatments under this project in FY21.
03/04/2019 8:08 PM Brian Garrett $500,000 additional funding secured from LTRA SNPLMA Secondary Project List
01/10/2018 9:22 AM Brian Garrett Minimal funding remains to continue this project, if no additional funding is received, project will be completed in 2018, if additional $500,000 is funded, project will continue thru 2019. Project is planned to be replaced by future - Urban Defense Zone Fuels reduction planning and implementation project.
12/31/2016 9:58 AM Brian Garrett This is a correction to the 12/27/16 note, the project is expected to be completed in 2019.
12/27/2016 11:43 AM Brian Garrett This project is funded through multiple grants received through the SNPLMA program. The Urban Forest Restoration projects began in 1995, after the original Urban Lot NEPA was completed. Funding levels and accomplishments were low in the first 10 years of the program, followed by an increase in accomplishments after the LTRA was passed and SNPLMA funding became available. The SNPLMA projects focused on completing initial entry fuels reduction treatments and bringing older treatments to current fuels reduction standards. This work is expected to be completed by 2018. A new planning project was funded in Round 15 SNPLMA, the Urban Forest Defense Zone and Healthy Forest project will replace this project for future fuels and forest health treatment needs on National Forest urban forest parcels, as well as other identified treatment needs on National Forest System lands within the Defense Zone of the Wildland Urban Interface.
