Overview

Basics

Basics
LTBMU seeks to substantially increase annual inventory and eradication of terrestrial invasive plant species (TIPS) infestations on National Forest System lands in the Basin. Completion in 2010 of an EA for integrated manual and herbicide treatments, creating the TIPS program, was followed by 5 years of successful field implementation that resulted in eradicated weed infestations outpacing occurrences of new weed infestations. Lack of comparable funding since 2016 has reversed the trend, with new infestations leading.

Explanation TIPS project started 1/1/2018. Field season is not yet underway. Accomplishments will be posted by year end. Both INVENTORY and TREATMENT accomplishment goals will be selected. In summer 2020, TIPS agreements were executed with El Dorado County and Nevada Tahoe Conservation District to treat terrestrial invasive plants on all lands within the Lake Tahoe Basin. In 2021 and 2022, these agreements were agreements were modified to allow performance into 2025. In 2023, the agreements were further modified to add funding. All accomplishments reported below are by Eldorado County, Placer County, Douglas County, and NTCD under agreements administered by the USFS.

01/23/2023 5:56 PM Emma Williams LTRA Funded a $100,000 agreement with El Dorado County and a $170,000 agreement with Nevada Tahoe Conservation District in 2020. Agreements used the Wyden Authority to treat terrestrial invasive plant species across ownership boundaries in the Lake Tahoe Basin between 2020-2025. Treatments have occurred under these agreements in 2021 and 2022. Additional funding is needed to continue treatment progress through the duration of the agreements.
