Overview

Basics

Basics
This project proposes to conduct project level resource surveys and environmental analyses (NEPA) and ground implementation for reduction of fuel ladders, standing and down fuel accumulations and canopy densities by modifying vegetation structure and fuel loads. The project would help restore healthy, diverse, fire resilient forest structure through tree thinning, and introduce prescribed fire for fuels reduction purposes to restore fire regimes that were historically part of the ecosystem. The project area covers North Lake Tahoe and the community near Incline Village.

Notes

Notes
01/11/2024 11:14 AM Brian Garrett Yarding work was not implemented in 2023, but is expected to be implemented in 2024, FWS consultation on White Bark Pine is being conducted. The additional $500,000 for the Diamond Hand Thin contract was awarded by SNPLMA secondary project funds. Contract package will be prepared in 2024 and awarded for implementation in 2025.
01/12/2023 11:42 AM Brian Garrett Work on the Incline yarding project with NDF was delayed in 2022. The listing of White Bark Pine by FWS has slowed implmentation to allow for consultation with FWS. There is hope that this project can start implementation in 2023, working to coordinate with NDF. There is some uncertainty on starting in 2023. Crews also finalized layout of the last hand thinning treatments for the Incline Project in 2022. The Forest Service is seeking $500,000 from the LTRA Secondary SNPLMA project list to fund this remaining work. Contract prep will occur in 2023 with anticipated contract award and treatment implementation in 2024.
01/17/2022 6:17 PM Brian Garrett Crews conducted project layout for 110 acres of potential cable yarding under the Good Neighbor Agreement with NDF. Crews also conducted recon for additional hand thin project layout, but did not begin implementing the layout in FY21.
12/28/2020 11:05 AM Brian Garrett No new acres accomplished in 2020. Hand thin contract awarded in FY19 was completed in 2020, agency expenditures in 2020 were for project management and contract administration.
01/11/2020 10:19 AM Brian Garrett contract award and implementation for the Incline Creek HT contract - 438 acres.
03/04/2019 7:40 PM Brian Garrett $1,000,000 of federal fuels funding added to project, funded NDF Good Neighbor agreement for 190 acres of cable yarding in Incline Project (acres to be accomplished in 2019) and GBI Agreement for Forestry Prep Crew
01/08/2018 2:51 PM Brian Garrett Silviculture review and field preparation for future contracts was also completed in FY17. Additional acres are expected to be completed in FY 18.
12/27/2016 10:36 AM Brian Garrett This project is funded through multiple grants through the SNPLMA program, including funding from the Round 16 award, Complete NEPA Ready Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Treatments. The first year of implementation on this project was 2016, with the exception of treatments on Urban Forest Parcels, which began in 2015 and were funded under the Urban Forest Restoration projects. Additional funding needs to be secured to complete all the expected treatments planned under this project.
