Basics

Basics
This fuels reduction project was on four privately owned lots at the edge of a neighborhood in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Defense Zone. Overcrowded and/or diseased trees were thinned. Dense pockets of shrubs were also thinned. These materials, along with dead and downed woody debris were piled over the summer and burned in the following fall/winter.

Notes
12/05/2019 3:59 PM April Shackelford This project is now considered complete. NLTFPD is grateful for the partnership from the USFS and private property owners. This project connects Federal, State and Private Ownership to create a more complete fuels reduction treatment in up-slope locations in Crystal Bay, NV. This project also create a safer location for fire fighters to protect near-by communities should wildfire be present in the area.
01/14/2019 12:45 PM April Shackelford Additional funding was secured by the three individuals who own the properties where this project took place. NLTFPD is grateful for their cooperation because without it, this project could not have been effectively completed.
01/08/2018 4:59 PM April Shackelford NLTFPD is grateful for the bulk of the funding that was provided by grant funding from the USFS - Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. This project also required collaboration and match funding from 3 property owners. Due to extreme fuel loading additional funding is needed from Incline Village General Improvement District. Hand thinning and piling has been completed on all 13 acres of the project area. The piles are scheduled to be burned in Fall/Winter 2018/2019.
