Basics
Keep Tahoe Blue Schools is the League’s youth education program to provide environmental science and stewardship experiences for Lake Tahoe area students. The League connects Tahoe’s students with their environment and aims to foster a lifelong sense of appreciation and responsibility for Lake Tahoe through place-based education. Keep Tahoe Blue Schools partners with local organizations and agencies, teaches lessons in classrooms and on field trips, and includes an innovative multidisciplinary program, Curriculum for Lake Education, Awareness, and Responsibility (CLEAR), based on Common Core Standards to provide long-term learning opportunities.

  • The primary goal of the Keep Tahoe Blue Schools program is to teach students about the threats to Tahoe's legendary clarity. Outreach efforts encourage students to take efforts to reduce trash, teaches them about stormwater pollution, and educates them about aquatic invasive plants.

01/13/2023 3:12 PM Cole Dickinson In 2022 Cole Dickison of the League updated the performance metric for 2019-2022 to better represent the accomplishments of the program. Expenditure data for Tahoe Blue Schools is no longer being tracked by the League, but the events are still taking place.
01/14/2022 3:42 PM Emily Frey Performance measure in 2021 was the same as previous years: 3 education and outreach programs offered -- classroom lessons (primarily virtual in 2021), field trips, and the CLEAR program. For the 2020-21 school year, Keep Tahoe Blue schools educated: 268 students in virtual classrooms lessons; 0 students in field trips (due to COVID-19) and 0 students through the CLEAR program.

For the 2019-20 school year, Keep Tahoe Blue schools educated: 749 students on field trips (including collaborative events organized through South Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition); 93 students in classrooms; and 0 students through the CLEAR program.

For the 2017-18 school year, Keep Tahoe Blue schools educated: 1,793 students on field trips; 418 students in classrooms; and 9 students through the CLEAR program.
01/11/2018 11:39 AM Emily Frey For the performance measure "Educational and Interpretive Programs Produced" we have indicated 3 for each of the last two years. These three programs are field trips, classroom lessons, and CLEAR (Curriculum for Lake Education, Awareness, and Responsibility). This performance measure does not capture, however, the number of students reached.

For the 2015-2016 school year: Keep Tahoe Blue Schools educated 1,746 students on field trips; 330 students in classroom lessons; and 231 students through CLEAR.

For the 2016-2017 school year: Keep Tahoe Blue Schools educated 1,588 students on field trips; 293 students in classroom lessons; and 352 students through CLEAR.
