Overview

Basics

Basics
STPUD has approximately 149 sites in which utility infrastructure (water and sewer lines) are crossing a stream environment zone, literally in the streambed. This project is a condition assessment of each of these 149 sites in order to assess the condition of the current infrastructure and the risk to the SEZ. The assessment would prioritize the sites through a risk assessment and give a generalized "toolbox" approach to stabilizing the infrastructure, to include stream restoration as necessary.

01/10/2024 3:16 PM Jennifer Marshall 2023 Update:
The District's consultant, Stantec, completed a final report detailing the findings of the crossing assessment. The District and Stantec are in the process of identifying potential projects to move into design phase. Two projects (Golden Bear and Lake Christopher Gravity Main Relocation/Protection) are included in the District's 10 year CIP. Gravity main protection and relocation projects decrease the risk of sewer failures, which can impact the tributaries of Lake Tahoe and the Lake itself.
01/09/2023 4:38 PM Yesenia Pacheco The District's consultant (Cardno) finalized their report and database of findings on their initial assessment of pipelines crossing meadows, creeks, and rivers across the extent of the District's pipeline network.  This phase focused on surface conditions and pipeline exposure to develop a score for each pipe. Work is expected to continue in 2023 to locate more pipe crossings, perform inspections of pipe conditions, and define recommended projects.
01/04/2021 12:20 PM Yesenia Pacheco 2021 Update

The District is identifying utility pipelines at stream crossings which may be exposed to structural damage from erosion. Criteria are being considered to develop a prioritized inventory of pipeline crossings which would allow the District to:
1) Identify High-Risk Crossings;
2) Develop appropriate contingency plans;
3) Identify potential improvements; and
4) Bundle potential improvement projects to help streamline environmental permitting
