Overview

Basics

Basics
The West Shore WUI Project proposes vegetation and fuels treatments to reduce stand densities to improve forest health, reduce fire hazards from existing fuels, and modify fire behavior to provide defensible space for adjoining developed private lands. Treatment options include ground based mechanical treatments wherever slope and road access allow, and hand treatments where steeper and/or rocky slopes prohibit mechanical equipment operations. The proposed action includes 110 treatment units, and approximately 100 urban lots, totaling approximately 4,875 acres.

01/12/2024 4:01 PM Brian Garrett Tahoe City WT contract was cancelled. The project is being repackaged into two separate contracts and will be awarded in 2024. Additional funding for anticipated contract cost were added from LTRA funds. Additional field work was needed to finalize Eagle HT contract field layout and was completed in 2023. The contact will now be awarded in 2024. Work did not begin on Tahoe Pines CTL contract, that work will begin in 2024.
01/13/2023 10:14 AM Brian Garrett Burton Creek WT mechanical treatment was completed in 2022. Additionally, 309 acres of hand thin acres were field prepped for contact - Eagle Handthin contract is planned to be awarded and begin implementation in 2023. The Tahoe Pines Mechanical contract was not implemented in 2022, but is anticipated to begin implementation in 2023. The Tahoe City WT project was not implemented and is anticipated to begin in 2023.
01/17/2022 6:42 PM Brian Garrett The Ward Creek CTL project was completed in FY21, the project was funded by the Calfiornia Wildlife Conservation Board. The Burton Creek WT project awarded in FY20 began and was planned to be completed, however Calfornia Fires and suppression response by the contractor prevented the work to be completed as planned. The project final 68 acres of the project will be completed in FY22.
