This projects installs CCTV cameras on-board transit and at transit stations to improve real-time information and increase safety. Increasing reliability and safety encourages increased ridership on transit services and reduces reliance on the private automobile. This will reduce emissions, positively impacting air quality and reduce pollutant load, positively impacting water clarity. This project is identified in the Tahoe Basin ITS Strategic Plan as TR-10.

This project enhances multimodal transportation, a key element to the region’s overall vitality, by offering an alternative to traveling by car. Enhancements to active modes & public transit are key to fulfilling this priority goal. A set of ITS strategies has been identified that increase the ease with which transit services in the Tahoe Basin can be provided and used, and thereby improve mobility & reduce the need for use of private vehicles. This project does that.
