Overview

Basics

Basics
Successful implementation of the Tahoe yellow cress (TYC) Conservation Strategy (CS2015) will continue to prevent the need to list TYC under the ESA and will protect the species per California and Nevada State law. The TYC CS established management goals and objectives to provide measurable targets for the conservation and management of TYC within the adaptive management framework. These goals are: G1: Protect TYC plants and habitat on public lands, G2: Promote stewardship, protection, awareness of TYC on private lands, G3: Manage TYC populations for persistence, G4: Utilize key management questions to direct research, G5: Continue long-term monitoring, G6: Use adaptive mgmt framework

03/01/2023 9:03 PM Beth Vollmer 2022 accomplishments from LTBMU:
-built new or did maintenance on enclosures
• LTBMU maintained existing enclosure around the outlet of Burke Creek at NV Beach (before and after photos attached).
• Removed non-functioning/non-serviceable fencing and signage along swale of Taylor Creek swale.
• Constructed two new enclosures at Tallac Creek and Baldwin Beach as translocation repositories.
• Constructed a refuge area at the mouth of Taylor Creek by installing large logs, boulders, and constructing a line of fencing. This refuge area was constructed as a translocation repository and permanent habitat conservation area.
-promoted stewardship for protection or awareness of TYC on public or private lands
• Presented educational materials on TYC at the 2022 Native Species Festival.
• Posted signage at Tallac Creek, Baldwin Beach, and Taylor Creek sites to inform public of ongoing habitat protection and conservation efforts.
-any other actions to manage populations for persistence?
• Almost 1,500 TYC were translocation from areas of Taylor Creek and Tallac Creek where benthic barriers were installed as a mitigation for Phase 1 of the Taylor-Tallac Restoration Project. Plants were translocated into newly constructed fenced enclosures or refuge areas. Monitoring results at the end of the growing season found 78% of transplants survived in the first year.
12/21/2021 2:14 PM Beth Vollmer In 2021 the LTBMU partnered with League to Save Lake Tahoe who coordinated a volunteer event at Baldwin Beach in July. Volunteers and agency staff repaired existing TYC enclosure fences and pulled wooly mullein to improve habitat. - correspondence with Emma Williams LTBMU
