Overview

Basics

Basics
Recognized as a trusted and unbiased source of data, the USGS is in a unique role as a non-management agency in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The USGS is charged with providing accurate and defensible data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination to stakeholders, cooperators, managers, and the general public in a modern, up to date manner. The development of an interactive website for the Lake Tahoe Basin, conceptually similar to the Walker Basin Hydro Mapper and the Texas Water Dashboard, is needed to highlight data collection efforts in the Basin and provide a single website to visualize and explore hydrologic data.

Threshold Categories

  • Real-time data of streamflow, stage, and other water quality parameters provide on the fly information about associated habitat and acts as ancillary information for temperature assessments.
  • Provides real-time data to the general public on streamflow for fishing, gages stream water availability for backpacking and bikepacking, and safety information for hazardous flow conditions during storms and snowmelt.
  • Provides real-time information on gaged SEZ stream environments and provides flow and stage data associated with erosion thresholds (if developed).
  • Real-time reporting of lake levels, stream stage, streamflow, and water quality data will allow real time management decisions as a basin-wide perspective.
