The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency works with several partners to monitor for the presence of special interest species in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Species monitored are osprey, peregrine falcon, and bald eagle.

TRPA threshold standard: Maintain a minimum number of population sites for each of eight special status species or species assemblage. The minimum number of population sites is as follows: Osprey (4 population sites), Peregrine Falcon (2 population sites), and wintering Bald Eagle (2 population sites).
