Overview

Basics

Basics
This landscape-scale, interdisciplinary annual assessment program is intended to determine the status and trends of sensitive biological resources and their habitat, and identify restoration opportunities and biodiversity hot spots in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The collective results of this effort would be used to produce status reports, and design projects focused on supporting resilience of the Lake Tahoe Basin landscape under a changing climate. The disciplines include plants, fungi, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds, and associated habitats. Species evaluated would include, but not limited to, ESA-listed, Forest Service Sensitive, and TRPA Special Interest species.

Threshold Categories

  • Assessment data, both annually and over time, will identify stream habitat in need of restoration to improve resilience and support these types of projects. The assessment data will also inform land managers about habitat conditions and the status and trend of fish and amphibian distribution in the Lake Tahoe Basin. By conducting this assessment, we will know more about the condition of aquatic habitat in places never before surveyed.
  • Assessment data, both annually and over time, will identify rare and sensitive botanical habitat in need of restoration to improve resilience and support these types of projects. The assessment data will also inform land managers about the location of rare, sensitive, and also invasive plant species, the condition of the vegetated landscape, and the trend in botanical resources in the Lake Tahoe Basin. By conducting this assessment, we will know more about the condition of the population of rare and sensitive plants, and trend in invasive plants in places never before surveyed.
  • Assessment data, both annually and over time, will identify wildlife habitat in need of restoration to improve resilience and support these types of projects. The assessment data will also inform land managers about habitat conditions and the status and trend of wildlife distribution in the Lake Tahoe Basin. By conducting this assessment, we will know more about the condition of wildlife habitat in places never before surveyed.
