Overview

Basics

Basics
The scope of work for this project was drastically reduced for several reasons. However, 501 of the original 1013 urban lots were treated for fuels reduction to remove shrubs, smaller trees, downed logs, and woody materials. The cut biomass was chipped and removed from the site. The project serves to improve forest health for the larger trees that are retained. It also improves the defensible space for neighboring structures. The hand thinning work was completed in 2021, and the scope of work reduction was approved by the funder early in 2023 allowing for the project to be closed out.

Explanation No additional acres will be treated for this project. The project is housed by a larger program managed by FEMA and it is nearing the end of it's period of performance. The project will be limited to Phase 1 and Phase 2. The third and final stage will not be implemented due to time and budgetary restraints. A total of 435 urban lots totaling 79 acres were treated with hand thinning and all materials produced were chipped.

Notes

Notes
03/22/2023 7:47 PM April Shackelford Phase 2 of this project was completed in 2021 bringing total parcels treated to 501 which equals 92.4 acres treated. Phase 3 will not be taking place due to lack of sufficient funds and lack of time. The project had to be closed out because FEMA's larger program that funded this project expired. The project was set to start in 2013 but faced many challenges. We are glad for the 92.4 acres that were treated and look forward to finishing the work remaining with a future project.
01/15/2021 1:16 PM Eric Horntvedt Phase 2 of this project treated select CTC lots from HWY 267 in Kings beach to Tahoe City to reduce hazardous fuels and enhance defensible space of neighboring homes. Phase 2 is nearing completion, and Phase 3 of this project is currently in the layout/design stage. Phase 3 will begin in 2021 to treat select CTC lots from Tahoe City to Chamberlands.
