The Burton Forest Health Restoration Project implements mechanical forest thinning and fuel reduction on 60 acres of Burton Creek State Park to the west of Rocky Ridge. Project improves native forest composition and structure, reduce hazardous fire fuels, promotes increased carbon sequestration through increased future tree growth, and reduces potential greenhouse gas emissions from wildfire. Treatment methods include mechanical forest thinning with tractors, removal of logs and chipped woody materials for utilization, and restoration/rehabilitation of recreation trail utilized by logging tractors for the project.
