Overview

Basics

Basics
The project will create resilient forests adjacent to approximately 28 miles of NV Energy utility infrastructure on the Nevada side of the Tahoe Basin. The project is designed to treat in 3 zones, Zone 1 is the area immediately adjacent to utility infrastructure (15'), Zone 2 is up to 175' from utility infrastructure and Zone 3 can extend up to 1000' feet from the utility infrastructure. The project will thin forest to improve forest health, remove trees that could grow into or fall on power lines and reduce hazardous fuels.

01/14/2024 10:17 AM Brian Garrett In 2023, implementation on the 280 acres awarded in 2022 occurred, 175 acres were completed, and the remaining 105 acres are mostly completed with some additional work needed to finalize these treatments in 2024. An additional 250 acres of Zone 2 treatments were awarded in 2023 and work began on those acres, with completion of treatments expected in 2024.
01/16/2023 10:58 AM Brian Garrett NEPA planning was completed in 2022 and project implementation began with hand thinning in Zone 1 and falling of hazard trees in Zone 2. 280 mechanical acres of Zone 2 were approved in October 2022 for implementation under the Stewardship Agreement with NV Energy and work began on those treatments fall 2022. This 280 acres is shown in the EIP tracker as a 2022 accomplishment, but will be a FY23 accomplishment for the Forest Service.
02/11/2022 7:55 AM Brian Garrett NEPA planning, resource surveys and preliminary project layout was conducted in 2021. NEPA decision anticipated in Spring 2022 and implementation is planned to begin during the 2022 field season.
12/31/2020 10:31 AM Brian Garrett Project planning began in 2020, project scoping was conducted in November and December of 2020. The project extends onto the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest outside the Tahoe Basin. This EIP project is specific to the portions of the project that fall within the Tahoe Basin.
