Overview

Basics

Basics
The Tahoe Science Advisory Council’s “Science-to-Action Plan for the Upland Ecosystem” provides a broad framework for collecting data, performing analyses, and developing the modeling tools needed to address restoration and resilience planning in the Tahoe Basin. A holistic and coordinated approach is needed to address climate change and disturbance impacts (e.g. wildfire, introduction of species) in forests and watersheds of the Basin. This framework addresses the research needed to identify changing conditions, inform resource management decision-making, and monitor expected outcomes. Project focus areas include forests and fires, terrestrial and aquatic linkages, and biological integrity.

Threshold Categories

  • Stream water quality, aquatic habitat and fisheries respond to changes in the upland ecosystem. This project will develop recommendations for forest resilience and stream restoration that enhance fisheries and aquatic habitat in the Tahoe Basin.
  • Recreational activities are prevalent in upland areas of the Tahoe Basin and affect resource conditions in areas addressed by this project.
  • Increasing forest resilience is a focus area of this project to protect against increasing threats from wildfire, pests and climate change.
  • Protecting biodiversity and biological integrity are focus areas of this project and critical factors for creating resilient forests.
