Basics
Educational signage has been installed on route to a popular hiking and climbing destination and peregrine falcon nesting site. The goal is to reduce stress on the nesting peregrine falcons at Castle Rock by educating hikers and climbers of seasonal closures and nesting disturbance. Threshold Categories

  • Peregrine Falcon nesting success is threatened by the presence of humans. Observation of the nest, during both recreational climbing and hiking to the top of the castle rock is shaping management action. Educational signage will be installed to inform hikers of the nests presence. By learning about the nest and being educated on why hikers should not summit castle rock during the nesting season, the nest is being protected. It has been found that the Peregrine Falcons were not threatened by the presence of climbers at this location.
