Overview

Basics

Basics
The watersheds within and downstream of the Caldor Fire Scar present an opportunity to use the expected erosion from the landscape to promote channel aggradation within incised areas of the streams. The project installed 80 willow fences along Saxon and Trout Creeks. Structures were concentrated in areas that benefited from channel aggradation and riparian width expansion potential. Additional willow staking would occur summer 2024 to provide live plant food sources for beaver to re-inhabit the areas post-fire. Monitoring of the structures will occur summer 2024.

Year(s) 2023
Explanation The 80 willow fence structures along Saxon and Trout Creek were built in both 2022 and 2023, so the linear feet of stream channel restored remains the same.

No watersheds set for this project.

Threshold Categories

  • improve fish habitat, moderate stream velocity by increasing riparian width
  • The BDA structures will aggrade the incised channel, holding back nutrients and sediment easily transported due to lack of vegetation from the Caldor fire. The aggraded channel offers potential for expanded riparian width, improving the groundwater recharge and reducing surface runoff.
