Overview

Basics

Basics
The USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will conduct inventories and post-implementation monitoring in the UTR and Ward Creek watersheds. The need for these efforts is two-fold. Inventories are needed to determine the status of habitat and sensitive species. This information provides data for project level analysis but also identifies where restoration actions are needed. Post-implementation monitoring allows land managers to determine the success of restoration efforts, identify if adaptive management is needed, and/or where additional restoration actions are warranted.

Threshold Categories

  • Inventories and evaluations will determine extent of aquatic invasive species distribution, which affects fisheries. These inventories will also give us a snap shot of distribution of all fish species. It will also inventory stream health and function, stream temperature. The assessments will also identify natural barriers, which benefits future recovery actions.
  • Inventories include meadow wetness surveys, groundwater assessments, and streambank percent cover. The intention is to identify the status of SEZ habitats, the success of recent restoration actions, and to identify adaptive management or new restoration needs.
  • Surveys are planned on temporary roads and landings to ensure resource protect measures were successful and infestations of weeds has not occurred.
  • post implementation surveys/monitoring will identify adaptive management needs to protect water quality and aid in future restoration activities that protect and restore stream function/processes, which protect water quality.
  • Inventories for willow fly catcher, bats, Pacific martin, pearlshell mussels, and monarch butterfly are included in inventories. The intention is to determine the status of these special status species and identify restoration needs.
