Overview

Basics

Basics
The Lake Tahoe Basin Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Update will update the current Lake Tahoe Basin CWPP (2015). The Healthy Forests Restoration Act (HFRA) of 2003 encouraged communities to create CWPPs to collaboratively designate community wildfire issues in most need of addressing. The process of developing CWPP helps communities clarify and refine priorities for the protection of life, property, and critical infrastructure in the wildland–urban interface. This project will also include the update of strategic and tactical wildfire pre-attack plans for all areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

12/27/2023 1:48 PM Cheyanne Neuffer December 2023 update: The CWPP update is well underway. All initial public stakeholder meetings have taken place around the Tahoe Basin. Districts will begin project prioritization in January 2024 using Vibrant Planet's Land Tender software.
The Lake Tahoe Basin CWPP will be hosted on ArcGIS Hub platform to ensure continued engagement and collaboration from both the public and professions.
01/12/2023 2:20 PM Cheyanne Neuffer The CWPP update process leads community members through valuable discussions regarding management options and implications for the surrounding land base, while also providing a great opportunity for public wildfire education. Local fire service organizations help define issues that may place the county, communities, and/or individual homes at risk. Through the collaboration process, the CWPP development committee discusses potential solutions, funding opportunities, and regulatory concerns while documenting their resulting recommendations in the CWPP.
