Overview

Basics

Basics
California Department of Parks and Recreation is in the initial stage of designing a wetland enhancement project in the old quarry pit and pile near Dry Meadow in Washoe Meadows State Park. The site currently holds water until early summer and has established wetland vegetation - design goals would include expanding wetland habitat by lowering surface elevation, removing discarded quarry debris, maximizing wildlife habitat components, and extending surface water longer into the summer months.

Threshold Categories

  • Improve the scenic experience to visitors of Washoe Meadows by increasing bird and wildlife habitat.
  • Restore 2 acres of sandy compacted quarry pit and encourage robust soil development by increasing surface water and native vegetation.
  • Remove high density lodgepole pine from the meadow to increase groundwater and decrease forest density, and improve native wetland vegetation habitat.
