Overview

Basics

Basics
The Tahoe Keys is the highest priority location of invasive aquatic weed control. After the Tahoe Keys Control Methods Test (CMT) Project has completed, partners will use the extensive data collected during the CMT project to inform a holistic treatment regime for the entirety of the Tahoe Keys (both East and West Lagoons). Stakeholder engagement, planning, and environmental review will be the next step in solving this complicated infestation. Keys partners include the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association, TRPA, the League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe RCD, Lake Tahoe Water Suppliers, and the Tahoe Keys Marina. The Lahontan Water Board will also provide regulatory guidance.

Threshold Categories

  • Removal of AIS will contribute to improved fish habitat within Lake Tahoe for native fish and reduce habitat for invasive fish which prey on native fish and disrupt the natural food chain.
  • This project will allow for a variety of control methods for invasive weeds in the Tahoe Keys. This control effort will prevent infestation of weeds into Lake Tahoe therefore reducing the risk of impacts on water quality in the Lake.
