Overview

Basics

Basics
A multi-benefit project that has restoration, public access, and forestry elements. The Conservancy aims to restore wetland by removing fill placed from historic development, including over eight feet of fill over four acres at a former motel and 2 acres of a former maintenance yard. Additionally, the Conservancy is considering stabilizing banks, removing encroached conifers, and enhancing meadows. The Conservancy is also evaluating opportunities to enhance a portion of the South Tahoe Bikeway and provide other public access amenities.

Threshold Categories

  • Enhancement of the South Tahoe Bikeway will increase use and reduce automobile traffic
  • Restoration of the UTR banks will enhance in channel aquatic habitat and therefore fisheries
  • The Project will enhance the South Tahoe Bikeway and potentially create public access amenities.
  • Creation of wet meadows will restore native plant communities
  • Bank stabilization will reduce channel erosion. Wet meadow creation and enhancement will increase river overbanking and increase natural floodplain sedimentation
  • Creation and enhancement of meadows and stabilization of river channel banks with habitat structures will improve aquatic and terrestrial habitat
