Overview

Basics

Basics
The Tahoe Valley Stormwater and Greenbelt Improvement project includes multi-benefit stormwater, SEZ, bicycle and pedestrian improvements and recreational amenities. Water quality and SEZ enhancements will include improving existing drainage ways and drainage systems to spread, treat, infiltrate, and retain flows from roadways, commercial areas, and other high priority, directly connected urban areas in accordance with the Lake Tahoe TMDL. Pedestrian and bicycle improvements and all-weather crossings will improve connectivity within the project area and to regional networks.

Notes

Notes
11/28/2022 12:40 PM Stan Hill Phase 1 (Upper and Lower areas) was bid and awarded in 2022. Award of Phase 1 occurred in early September 2022. Work in the fall of 2022 was limited to subsurface utility potholing and tree removal work at the proposed WQ treatment basin sites. Full construction mobilization is scheduled to occur in late April 2023 with a construction start date of May 1, 2023. Construction of Phase 1 is expected to be complete in October 2023.

Phase 2 (Greenbelt area) is still awaiting for an approximate $5 million in construction funding. If construction funding is acquired by the early spring of 2023, Phase 2 will be bid, awarded, and constructed in 2023. Otherwise, construction of Phase 2 may be delayed until 2024 or possibly later.
01/08/2021 1:12 PM Stan Hill PS&E Final Documents were completed in late 2020 in accordance with the SWRCB planning grant schedule. The City is working with the McDonald's Corporation and the property owner of the CVS Pharmacy to acquire property or easements needed for the proposed project layout. The City expects some additional plan detailing will occur before the project goes out to bid. A pending SWRCB Implementation grant could provide construction funding to allow a construction phase of the project in the 2021 construction season.
04/09/2019 12:07 PM Stan Hill A pedestrian crossing on Emerald Bay Road (AKA U.S. Highway 50) was originally planned as a part of the overall Tahoe Valley Greenbelt project. The City acknowledges a pedestrian crossing at B Street will provide a direct connection between the Bonanza area neighborhoods and the Greenbelt area. However, Caltrans approval of a crossing at B Street will delay construction of the entire project. In the interest of allowing the Greenbelt work and water quality improvement work located on the westerly side of Emerald Bay Road and downstream of Lake Tahoe Blvd, the B Street crossing will be pursued as a separate project, but under the same EIP number.
07/22/2016 2:03 PM Jason Burke The project will provide additional benefits that are not currently tracked in this tool (but are requirements for funding sources that prioritize multi-benefit projects and use of stormwater as a resource). As noted in the project description included in the Tahoe Sierra Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (Tahoe Sierra IRWM), the project includes the following additional benefits:
- Flood Management (decreased flood risk attained by using distributed infiltration systems to reduce runoff rates and volumes at the source),
- Water Supply (augmentation of groundwater through increased infiltration of dry weather and wet weather flows)
- Community Mobility - enhanced bicycle and pedestrian connections consistent with regional active transportation plans.
- Water Quality (increased infiltration to provide runoff treatment, source controls and re-establishing natural drainage hydrology impacted by urban development and hydromodification).
10/05/2015 9:55 AM Jeanne McNamara At the request of the City of South Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Valley Stormwater Project and the Tahoe Valley SEZ Restoration projects were combined into one project.
