Overview

Basics

Basics
The Tahoe Keys Lagoons are a series of waterways directly connected to Lake Tahoe that are almost entirely infested with invasive aquatic weeds. At over 170 acres, it is the largest aquatic weed infestation in the lake. The Tahoe Keys Lagoons Aquatic Weed Control Methods Test is collaboratively developed project that seeks to test multiple methods of weed control to gain information on what combination of methods will have the best chance of treating the entirety of the Tahoe Keys Lagoons infestation. The environmental analysis and test project was approved by boards from TRPA and Lahontan in January 2022, with implementation slated for the Spring of 2022. Implementation project 01.03.01.000

02/02/2022 9:47 PM Dennis Zabaglo Original project description: The Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) is working collaboratively with lead agencies- TRPA and Lahontan to develop a test project using integrated methods to control aquatic weeds. The project includes a stakeholder committee that is making recommendations to the lead agencies for consideration on project development. The committee includes TKPAO, TRPA, Lahontan, Tahoe Water Suppliers, the League and Tahoe RCD. Multiple methods of control are being proposed to be tested independently and in combination, that include UV light, aquatic herbicides and laminar flow aeration, followed by bottom barriers and diver assisted suction and hand pulling. Environmental analysis is under way.
