Aquatic plant removal at Fleur du Lac Marina and the outer harbor is part of a multi-year lake-wide strategy to remove aquatic invasive plants from the nearshore of Lake Tahoe Basin. Bottom barriers, diver-assisted suction removal, and hand-pulling were used from 2016-2018 to reduce the Eurasian watermilfoil infestation to 0% cover. From 2018-2020, divers conducted surveillance monitoring to ensure there is not a re-occurence of this infestation. Surveillance monitoring was not conducted in 2021, but is expected to be re-initiated in 2021 and will continue to occur at this site annually (funding-dependent).
Removal of AIS will contribute to improved fish habitat within Lake Tahoe for native fish and reduce habitat for invasive fish which prey on native fish and disrupt the natural food chain.
