Overview

Basics

Basics
The Eurasian watermilfoil and curlyleaf pondweed infestation covers approximately 1 acre inside and immediately adjacent to the marina. Ultraviolet light, benthic barriers, diver-assisted suction removal, and hand-pulling are being used to control these plant species. This project is being implemented in coordination with EIP Project Number 01.03.01.0030, Lakeside Beach & Marina Aquatic Invasive Plant Control UV Light Pilot II.

Threshold Categories

  • Removal of AIS will contribute to improved fish habitat within Lake Tahoe for native fish and reduce habitat for invasive fish which prey on native fish and disrupt the natural food chain.
  • This project will improve water quality by removing aquatic invasive plants, a known contributor to decreased lake clarity.

Notes

Notes
02/12/2024 3:29 PM Dennis Zabaglo Lakeside Marina has been implementing small scale UV light treatments using an unpiloted, non-motorized vessel that is moved by marina staff. Marina staff have implemented these treatments in 2022 and 2023. Expenditures reported account for marina staff time, fuel to operate the UV light generators, and mooring revenues lost due to the vessel being stored at the marina.
01/18/2021 1:31 PM Mollie Hurt In 2020, barriers were placed along the perimeter of the Marina where the UV light boat light array was unable to reach. See EIP Project Number 01.03.01.0030, Lakeside Beach & Marina Aquatic Invasive Plant Control UV Light Pilot II.
