Overview

Basics

Basics
Bottom barriers, diver-assisted suction removal and hand-pulling were used to control plants in the marina. In addition, the League to Save Lake Tahoe provided homeowners with Eyes on the Lake training to learn how to identify and report aquatic invasive plants. Effectively controlling plant fragments from entering the marina from Lake Tahoe continues to be a challenge. A bubble curtain was installed in 2021 at the mouth of the marina to reduce invasive aquatic plant fragments from re-infesting the area and to protect the investment. Fragments that entered the marina prior to installation of the bubble curtain have grown and another phase of treatment is needed.

Notes

Notes
01/16/2024 10:26 AM Mollie Hurt Contracted divers conducted a site assessment of this infestation in August 2023. The data collected in this assessment will assist managers in determining next steps and funding needed for long-term management of this infestation, including continuous operation and maintenance of the existing bubble curtains.
03/09/2022 8:05 AM Mollie Hurt Aquatic invasive plant fragments that entered marina prior to installation of the bubble curtains and during periods when the bubble curtain is inoperable have rooted in the marina and continue to grow and spread. A coordinated and consistent (funded) effort that includes regularly scheduled underwater plant removal performed by divers is needed to treat the current infestation and maintain a weed-free condition in the marina.
03/07/2022 5:32 PM Mollie Hurt 2021 expenditures specifically for equipment and installation of the bubble curtains at the entrance to Elk Point Marina were:
TRPA/LTRA: $11,526
Elk Point Country Club HOA: $16,450
League to Save Lake Tahoe: $4,000
Tahoe Fund: $3,000
These funds are documented in the Financials section of this EIP Project.
01/14/2020 4:25 PM Mollie Hurt In Fall 2019, divers removed barriers from the marina. In 2020, divers will conduct follow-up treatments using diver-assisted suction removal and hand-pulling to remove any remaining plants.
01/15/2019 2:56 PM Mollie Hurt In 2018, divers installed barriers over Eurasian watermilfoil throughout Elk Point Marina. Prior to barrier installation, divers hand-pulled all detections of curly-leaf pondweed (Potamegeton crispus).
