Overview

Basics

Basics
As competing recreation access demands on public lands increase, the need to balance competing uses and interests is imperative. Placer County aims to better manage recreational opportunities so that they best suit recreation, while supporting social and environmental values, so that growing number of user conflicts and environmental impacts are minimized. This project will work with partners in the Basin to address water quality, user conflict and access issues at trailheads and backcountry access points in Placer County. Phase 1 of the North Tahoe Recreational Access Plan identifies water quality issues at recreational access points, develops a plan, and implements at recreation sites.

Threshold Categories

  • Natural areas for public access to trails and recreational amenities will be improved, through addressing erosive and water quality impacts.
  • The project provides a plan that promotes recreation access for a wide range of user groups in the North Lake Tahoe Basin. Phase I of the plan will assess recreation access locations and conditions (for water quality) via manual counts, surveys and electronic data and use this to identify the needs to retrofit the access points in the project area, followed by the development of implementation design that will identify current and future programs and facilities needed to enhance water quality improvements and decrease conflicts between user groups.
