Overview

Basics

Basics
This site is identified in the 2019 Lake Tahoe Region AIS Action Agenda as a Tier 1 priority for treatment. Aquatic invasive plant control at this site commenced in September 2020. Diver-assisted suction removal has been the primary method of plant control thus far. In September 2023, an aquatic invasive species, New Zealand mudsnail (Potamopyrgus antipodarum), was detected by contracted divers within the project area. Work was paused to reduce risk of spread of this species.

Threshold Categories

  • Removal of AIS will contribute to improved fish habitat within Lake Tahoe for native fish and reduce habitat for invasive fish which prey on native fish and disrupt the natural food chain.
  • This project will improve water quality by removing aquatic invasive plants, a known contributor to decreased lake clarity.

Notes
01/16/2024 8:49 AM Mollie Hurt In 2023, a complete site assessment survey was conducted for this infestation and dive contractor completed full mobilization of crews and equipment to begin work. One day of diver-assisted suction was conducted before New Zealand mudsnails were detected immediately adjacent to the project area. A grid survey of the offshore area was conducted, and all plant removal operations that could disturb or spread New Zealand mudsnail were paused.
