The Máyala Wáta Restoration project seeks to restore approximately 280 acres of meadow habitat in Meeks Meadow though a number of techniques including conifer removal, vegetative treatments, and cultural prescribed fire. The Washoe Tribe Environmental Protection department (WEPD) will continue working with the Forest Service on the implementation of the project.

  • The Máyala Wáta Restoration project will remove encroached conifers from a montane meadow to increase the groundwater levels for meadow vegetation with cultural significance to the Washoe Tribe. Vegetation monitoring will continue as funding allows to asses changes in composition over time.
